Primary Health Network Mobile Health Unit Reaches First Anniversary Milestone

Sharon, PA – In a year marked by challenges to healthcare accessibility, Primary Health Network (PHN) celebrated the first anniversary of its newly renovated mobile health unit, bringing critical medical services to underserved communities across five counties. Since its launch, the mobile unit has provided more than 270 primary care visits through over 94 clinic sessions at 37 sites. It has become a lifeline for individuals who otherwise may have had no access to healthcare.

The mobile health service model is designed to redefine healthcare access and improve health outcomes in the communities PHN serves. By meeting people where they are and bringing services directly to the communities where individuals live and work, the mobile unit offers medical care, screenings, vaccinations, and preventive services—helping to overcome barriers such as transportation and limited access to healthcare facilities.

In January 2025, PHN expanded its reach, offering mobile health services in Emlenton, PA, a town in Venango County with limited access to primary care. Additionally, PHN formed a partnership with the Cornerstone of Beaver County, which provides emergency shelter, housing assistance, and resources for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. These efforts align with PHN’s broader goal of addressing both healthcare and social determinants of health, such as housing and food security, to improve long-term well-being.

“The framework of the mobile health unit addresses both immediate healthcare needs and the social factors that impact health,” said Nick Baron, Director of Operations Quality Control at PHN. “By removing visible barriers like transportation and the ability to pay, we can connect individuals to the resources they need to stay healthy.”

Since the launch of the mobile health initiative, PHN has significantly improved healthcare access for underserved populations, providing hundreds of health screenings, vaccinations, and follow-up care in areas where healthcare services are limited. The impact of the mobile unit is a testament to PHN’s commitment to breaking down barriers and expanding access to essential services.

“Being able to help those in need by providing access to care has been a powerful experience,” said Dr. Donald W. Rumbaugh, MD, a provider with PHN. “What may seem like a simple procedure to some can be life-changing for others. The staff goes above and beyond to do what is best for the patient, and we have experienced sincere appreciation from those we serve.”

Other collaborative locations across Beaver, Erie, Lawrence, Mercer, and Venango Counties include housing authorities, senior services, churches, and human services agencies such as the Beaver County Housing Authority, Mercy Center for Women in Erie County, ARISE in Lawrence County, Good Shepherd Center in Mercer County, and Emmaus Haven in Venango County.

Whether through health centers or the mobile health unit, PHN is committed to meeting people where they are and making a real, tangible difference in the lives of those with limited access to traditional healthcare. PHN will continue expanding its mobile health efforts and building partnerships to serve more individuals in need. The mobile health unit offers screenings, medication management, and general medical care, ensuring that healthcare is not a barrier. These collaborations bring services to where they are needed most, working alongside trusted community organizations to improve lives.
