Primary Health Network Launches Innovative CRNP Residency Program to Tackle Provider Shortages and Elevate Community Health
Sharon, PA — In response to the urgent need for skilled healthcare providers and the ongoing challenges of healthcare recruitment and retention, Primary Health Network (PHN) proudly announces the launch of its groundbreaking CRNP Residency Program. This new initiative is designed to address the primary care provider shortage while enhancing health outcomes in underserved communities by immersing new Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs) in the mission-driven environment of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
The CRNP Residency Program at PHN aims to enrich newly licensed CRNPs by equipping them with the skills and confidence necessary to excel in a collaborative, interprofessional setting. Through a comprehensive and hands-on approach, the program focuses on clinical complexity, evidence-based decision making, patient safety, and compassionate care, all while supporting the unique needs of community health centers.
“By establishing this residency program, our goal is to not only address the pressing need for qualified primary care providers but also to deeply integrate our residents into the ethos of community health,” said Dr. Angela Hogue, Chief Medical Officer at PHN. “We believe that by providing an immersive and supportive learning environment, we can foster a new generation of healthcare professionals who are not only skilled and confident but also deeply committed to improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve.”
The residency, running from September 2025 to August 2026, will select residents annually. The one-year salaried residency will be followed by continued employment at PHN. The program includes 40% precepted continuity clinics, 20% specialty rotations in Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Women’s Health, and Telemedicine, 20% mentored clinic focusing on acute care, and 20% didactic education. Residents will also participate in Project ECHO, engaging in case-based learning with a multidisciplinary team of specialists.
Compensation during the residency is competitive, with a significant increase in salary upon completion. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and life insurance, disability coverage, a retirement plan, and wellness programs.
Applications for the CRNP Residency Program open on December 16, 2024, and will close on February 28, 2025. Eligible candidates include FNPs who have completed their program after August 2023 and are licensed in Pennsylvania and Ohio. If the applicant is not currently licensed in both states, for example, licensed in Pennsylvania, but not Ohio, PHN can support the individual in obtaining their Ohio license. The application process includes online submission, phone screening, onsite interviews, and final selection.
