Friday, July 28th, leaders from around Mercer County convened at Grove City College for an Economic Summit hosted by Penn Northwest Development Corporation. It started with hearing from our County Commissioners and State Legislators who all shared success stories for the county, but also valuable insight for continued development. The day was broken into panel sessions around topics including Workforce Development, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Education, and Tourism/Recreation. Here are some takeaways:
The county’s agencies have focused on collaboration, breaking down individual silos to achieve more.
There is a need for housing development as we try to encourage population growth.
There is a huge effort in workforce development and although unemployment is down in the county, there are 2,000 open positions.
To attract a talented workforce and keep our graduating students we need to improve our amenity offerings.
The event was very informative and the Greenville area was well represented both in the audience and on the panels. We look forward to working with all of our partners in growing our area!
Thiel College is welcoming a new crop of students on Saturday, August 26. The students will be moving in between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. If you would like to be present during that time to showcase your business and connect with some students, please complete this form.
There is no cost to participating. We will provide a table, two chairs, and encourage you to bring your relevant promotional materials or giveaways for the event.
